"Taxes are Everyone's Business"

With the new IRS Commissioner and the recent advances in technology at the IRS, there is a lot to learn. From the signing of the Inflation Reduction Act in 2022 and the SECURE Act in 2022, there are smaller changes for 2024 taxes – until the big 2017 changes expire in 2025!

In this workshop, Judi will review the key elements of the tax code effective for 2024 taxes (from the huge changes from the 2017 tax law and the smaller more recent changes for expanded energy credits, child credits and the new rules for Required Minimum Distributions, 401K catch - up contributions, and Inherited IRAs for both spouses and nonspouses) - both for the IRS and IL. In addition there are the increasingly complex rules for sales of stock and mutual funds and Form 8949 as well as the revised Schedule D. She will also discuss important deductions such as mortgage interest and real estate taxes - and common tax questions including house sales, gifting, K-1s from Trusts and Estates, and how to figure your withholding. She will focus on tax issues many of us have including CP 2000 notices from the IRS and why/whether to do it yourself or seek a professional for advice. There will be, as always, time for your questions.
